About Us

Calculate Bike Calories is a free online tool designed to help cyclists estimate their calorie expenditure during rides. We use scientifically-backed MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) values from the Compendium of Physical Activities to deliver accurate calorie estimates based on your individual metrics.

Our Mission

We help cyclists of all levels — from weekend riders to competitive athletes — understand the energy demands of their rides so they can make better decisions about nutrition, training, and recovery.

How We Calculate

The calculator accounts for factors including your body weight, riding speed, distance, duration, elevation gain, and terrain type to provide personalized calorie estimates. We use the widely accepted MET formula:

Calories = MET × Weight (kg) × Duration (hours)

MET values range from 4.0 for leisurely cycling to 15.8 for competitive racing speeds. Additional energy costs from elevation gain are calculated using physics-based formulas accounting for gravitational potential energy.
